Contribution on the Green Paper on Territorial Cohesion

Here is a contribution from AEM in the frame of the works done before the writing of the Green paper on territorial cohesion presented by the European Commission on the 6th of October. This first analysis of the challenges of Territorial cohesion gives the opportunity to frame the debate and to prepare the official answer of AEM.

THE ITALIAN MANIFESTE FOR DEVELOPMENT OF MOUNTAINS

The National Union of Italian Mountain Communes and Communities (UNCEM) has launched in June 2009 a campaign in favour of a new role of mountain territories in the « green economy »: LA SFIDA DEI TERRITORI NELLA GREEN ECONOMY

A mountain amendment in the resolution of the European Parliament on the crisis in the dairy sector.

AEM has helpt Members of the European Parliament (MEPs), Herbert Dorfmann, Jean-Pierre Audy and Michel Dantin, and others, to submit with the support of the EPP group, presided by Joseph Daul, an amendment (paragraph n°10) in the resolution that the European Parliament has voted during its plenary session in Strasburg on Thursday September the 17th. 367 for, 287 against: it appears as a re-founding act for the mobilisation of the MEPs from mountain regions during this new legislature.

MOUNTAIN WATERS - 3rd International Congress

On 22, 23 and 24 September 2010, Megève will host the Summit Meeting “L’Eau en Montagne” as part of the 3rd International Congress “L’Eau en Montagne” in order to launch a new governance strategy for the management of water in mountain areas that are facing climate change.

Adoption of the resolution on specific territories by the European Parliament

The European Parliament adopted on September 21st, 2010 during its plenary session a resolution on the “European strategy for the economic and social development of mountain regions, islands and sparsely populated areas”.

Within the framework of the European Week of Regions and Cities (Open Days), the workshop “TOWARDS AN ALPINE MACRO REGION” gathered several regional authorities and stakeholders from the Alps. The aim of this event was to debate and to share best practices leading to a coherent macroregional strategy for the Alps.

The Alpine Arc destiny is closely linked to the adjacent agglomerations and cities. Under the motto of "Metropolises and 'their' Alps" and in the context of the current EU-wide discussion of macro-regions and spatial policy, the 2010 ForumAlpinum explorde the relationship between the Alps and large cities along the Alpine Arc from scientific and political angles.

October 5, 2010: Meeting of the Intergroup 174 with the Commissioner Ciolos

The meeting of the” Intergroup on Mountains, Islands and sparsely populated areas”, was organized on Tuesday, October the 5th and dedicated on the topic: The Reform of the CAP and specific territories.
