The creation of the intergroup « mountains, islands and sparsely populated regions » is a major step for the European democracy and for the efficiency of European policies.
Here is a contribution from AEM in the frame of the works done before the writing of the Green paper on territorial cohesion presented by the European Commission on the 6th of October. This first analysis of the challenges of Territorial cohesion gives the opportunity to frame the debate and to prepare the official answer of AEM.
The National Union of Italian Mountain Communes and Communities (UNCEM) has launched in June 2009 a campaign in favour of a new role of mountain territories in the « green economy »: LA SFIDA DEI TERRITORI NELLA GREEN ECONOMY
AEM has helpt Members of the European Parliament (MEPs), Herbert Dorfmann, Jean-Pierre Audy and Michel Dantin, and others, to submit with the support of the EPP group, presided by Joseph Daul, an amendment (paragraph n°10) in the resolution that the European Parliament has voted during its plenary session in Strasburg on Thursday September the 17th. 367 for, 287 against: it appears as a re-founding act for the mobilisation of the MEPs from mountain regions during this new legislature.
